The following story is a fan fiction based on the novel “Let the Right One In” (Låt den rätte komma In) and the short story “Let the Old Dreams Die” (Låt de gamla drömmarna dö) by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It is the continuing tale of Eli and Oskar, of their joys and travails of their new lives together after fleeing Blackeberg, of their emotional growth and strengthening bond, and the various setbacks that inevitably coincide with these growing pains, especially amongst pubescent children. For those of you that are not aware, Eli is a vampire who is perpetually frozen in the body and mind of a 12 year old adolescent. Eli befriends a mortal named Oskar, who lives with his divorced mother, a mother who is paradoxically emotionally detached as well as overprotective. He is also severely bullied in school. As a result, his emotional growth is stunted, his self esteem is low, and his fear and anger are unhealthily high, until he befriends Eli, who instills enough confidence in him that he finally begins to fight back. Their friendship quickly grows into love, and they run off together after Eli kills Oscar’s tormentors.

This is an ongoing serial that I am writing for my own personal enjoyment and as a writing exercise, therefore let it be known that the story is not complete and may never be completed. More chapters will be added periodically. Also let it be known that I do not claim ownership over the characters in this story that have been created by Mr. Lindqvist or anyone else besides myself, nor do I have any intention of profiting by this story or profiting by using copyrighted materials. Again, let me reiterate that I am writing this story for my own pleasure, not for profit. Also, let it be said that if I have used the names of any real people, living or dead, that are not or were not public figures, it was purely coincidental. I hope that you find as much pleasure in reading this serial as I am in writing it.

This story is intended for adults, as it contains language that is inappropriate for minors to read. It also contains graphic violence and gore, recreational drug use and strong sexual content. Please be advised, and always be aware of your children’s online activities.

And so, without further ado, let me present to you my story, “Days of Blood and Roses: the Continuing Adventures of Eli and Oskar.”
